We hope you had a chance to join last week’s insightful NEA webinar hosted by our national partners at Americans for the Arts (AFTA). Don’t miss the chance to stay informed on the latest in national arts policy.
Updates and Resources from our friends at AFTA
We also wanted to share with you the latest national arts news over the last 10 days. In a significant legal victory for cultural advocates, a federal judge blocked President Trump’s executive order to dismantle the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), ruling that only Congress has the authority to eliminate federal agencies. This injunction allows IMLS to continue operations and prevents immediate layoffs or grant disruptions. Meanwhile, the administration proposed a 100% tariff on foreign films and television to boost domestic production, sparking confusion across the entertainment industry. Additionally, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) rescinded FY25 grant offers to projects misaligned with the president’s priorities, leading to a wave of early staff retirements and raising concerns about the future of federal arts funding.
During the webinar, AFTA shared valuable resources that can all be found on the Protect the NEA landing page.
