FEDERAL UPDATE (September 2025)
As Congress returns from the August recess, both the House and Senate are expected to move their FY’26 Interior Appropriations bills to the floor. These bills include funding for the NEA, NEH, and other cultural agencies, but harmful amendments to cut or even eliminate arts funding are likely. Now is the time to act. Even though MCA will continue sending urgent advocacy alerts, don’t wait—contact your members of Congress today and tell them to vote NO on any cuts that threaten federal arts and culture funding. Your voice is the power that protects the arts.
With the federal fiscal year ending September 30, lawmakers face a tight deadline to finalize appropriations—or pass a Continuing Resolution (CR) to avoid a government shutdown. This year, the risk is especially high due to partisan divides and disputes over rescissions and impoundments. For the arts, the stakes couldn’t be clearer: reduced stability, fewer grants, and weakened support for organizations nationwide. Federal funding for the arts reaches every state, strengthening schools, communities, and local economies—cuts would be felt everywhere.
