LEGACY CONFERENCE COMMITTEE ANNOUNCED
We’re excited to share a major win for arts advocacy in Minnesota. The Minnesota Senate has officially passed its version of the Legacy bill, which includes MCA’s recommendation to dedicate 47% of the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund to the Minnesota State Arts Board/Regional Arts Council system. This matches the House version, which passed with bipartisan support demonstrating powerful momentum behind public funding for the arts.
Now, both bills move to a Conference Committee to reconcile the differences before final passage. We’re encouraged that the recently announced Conference Committee members are all known champions of the arts and include:
House: Rep Joe McDonald (29A), Rep Samantha Vang (38B), Rep Samakab Hussein (65A), Rep Roger Skraba (03A)
Senate: Sen Foung Hawj (67), Sen Jennifer McEwen (08), Sen Zaynab Mohamed (63), Sen Susan Pha (38), Sen Eric Pratt (54)
Early this morning, the Governor and Legislative Leaders reached an agreement on an overall budget framework. With the constitutional session deadline approaching on Monday, we will continue to watch the development of the Legacy bill and keep you updated as it advances.
This progress wouldn’t be possible without your advocacy and support. Stay tuned for next steps—your voice will continue to be essential as we work to ensure the final bill protects and promotes Minnesota’s vibrant arts community.
