Federal Developments & the Strength of Minnesota’s Arts Funding
You may have seen the news about the federal budget freeze and its potential impact on arts funding. We want to reassure you that while we are closely monitoring developments—particularly regarding National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) funding—the vast majority of your arts funding comes from Minnesota’s state sales tax. This structure helps shield our state’s arts funding from federal-level disruptions.
Most importantly, our power lies in our advocates—you. Minnesota is one of the best-funded states for the arts in the nation because of the artists, organizations, and supporters who consistently show up, speak out, and make the case for why the arts matter. We are one of the longest-running and most successful arts advocacy organizations in the country and have one of the best teams of lobbyists in the business, all working tirelessly to protect and defend the funding that makes your work possible.
So while we are watching these federal developments closely, we are not worried—we are prepared. And with your continued advocacy, we will remain one of the strongest arts communities in the country.
We’ll keep you updated as needed, but please feel free to reach out anytime with questions. Thank you for being a part of why Minnesota’s arts sector remains strong and resilient.
Don’t forget to register for Arts Advocacy Day at the Capitol. It’s the best way we can show Minnesotans believe in supporting the arts. Click here: artsmn.org
Thank you for continuing to be the best advocates for the arts in the nation!
