1. Joy to the Polls
Musicians around the country are organizing to bring Joy to the Polls! This nonpartisan effort is to use music to diffuse any tensions by using music to unite us all at the polls. With the help of Live Nation, they are organizing artists and musicians to provide roving concerts to highly trafficked polling sites around the country to motivate every single person to stay in line until they have voted on election day. 2. MCA Seeking New Board Members
Deadline Nov. 13, 2020
Nominations for MCA's Board Now Open. Minnesota Citizens for the Arts is looking to add four new members to our Board of Trustees from the State of Minnesota. Terms begin December, 2020 and will last for two years.
What makes the arts strong in Minnesota? We have great, talented artists. We have world class museums and orchestras. We have active arts communities in every corner of the state. And we have a higher level of arts participation than most of the country. Minnesota Citizens for the Arts is a statewide, grassroots political organization that works to increase support for the arts in our state. We lobby the legislature and congress on behalf of the non-profit arts and also produce research to support arts advocacy. We created and passed the arts portion of the Legacy Amendment with many legislative partners that now funds the arts across Minnesota. Learn more at www.artsMN.org and www.creativeMN.org.
The full MCA Board meets four times a year in person in addition to holding an annual Arts Advocacy Day at the State Capitol in St. Paul. All members serve on committees that meet primarily by phone.
Interested? Fill out the form below and return itby November 13, 2020 by email, fax, or by snail mail to the address below. MCA's bylaws ensure that board representation comes from all over the state. Half of MCA's 36 board members must come from the Twin Cities metro area, and half from Greater Minnesota.
MCA seeks board members who:
- Have mix of party affiliation, and provide balance in terms of the size or type of organizations represented on the board (large, medium, small, arts education, individual artist, etc.)
- Provide other balances in terms of representing the state or the arts community (ie diversity in terms of age, race, etc).
- Are people with political connections, political strategists, and people with an understanding of the political process, or are willing to learn.
- Have clout within their organizations and/or peers, and have the ability and willingness to communicate about the need for arts advocacy.
- Have a willingness to work, volunteer and join us at our meetings.
- FYI, your nomination to the board is more likely to be successful if you are a paid member of MCA and if you have previously been a part of Arts Advocacy Day, the Legacy campaign, or volunteered for the cause in some other way.

Recognizing that many Minnesotans engage with the arts through community organizations and public entities that are not specifically arts organizations, the board will offer an additional Creative Support for Organizations application deadline in December that will be open to a wider spectrum of applicants. For the next deadline, the following additional kinds of entities will be welcome to apply:
- Arts affiliates of nonprofit or public institutions;
- Nonprofit organizations whose primary mission or focus is not the arts but have an ongoing commitment to arts programming and have received an Arts Board or regional arts council grant in fiscal years 2017, 2018, 2019, or 2020.
- Public entities with an ongoing commitment to arts programming that have received an Arts Board or regional arts council grant in fiscal years 2017, 2018, 2019, or 2020.
Organizations that were eligible to apply in August and September, but didn’t, will still be eligible to apply. Organizations that have been awarded a FY 2021 Creative Support for Organizations grant will not be eligible to apply for another grant. Organizations that submitted an application in August or September, that is being reviewed by the Arts Board, will not be eligible to submit another application. More detailed eligibility information will be available in the application materials.Creative Support for Organizations funds can be used to support people and activities that will be needed to keep audiences, participants, students, or communities engaged with the arts during the pandemic and beyond. This grant program aims to help Minnesota arts organizations and programs maintain their financial sustainability and long-term viability by leveraging creativity and connections to community, to ensure that the arts remain available to Minnesota residents and communities.Application materials will be available by early November; an announcement will be distributed when materials are available and the board will begin accepting applications.
