Creative Economy Contributes over $1.1 Trillion to US Economy
The latest Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account (ACPSA) report, jointly released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), indicates a 4.8 percent rise in arts and cultural economic activity after adjusting for inflation. This growth contributed to 5.2 million jobs and constituted 4.3 percent of the GDP, amounting to $1.10 trillion in 2022.
In tandem with the study, the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) developed Creative Economy State Profiles to enhance the accessibility of BEA's data. The Minnesota state report reaffirms what is already recognized in the state—that the arts play a significant economic role and serve as a catalyst for growth.
Highlights from the study for Minnesota say the Arts and Culture sector:
- Accounts for over $13 Billion to the Minnesota Economy.
- Represent 3.08% of the total Gross State Product (GSP)
- Contributes 90,085 jobs.
- Ranked 4th among the comparison sectors. Ahead of agriculture, utilities, and mining.

Your letter could be particularly crucial this month as legislators deliberate on how to allocate surplus Legacy Funds. Additionally, please consider sharing your personal narrative about why the arts hold significance for you.
