The U.S. House of Representatives is gearing up to vote on the FY2001 Interior Appropriations bill, which was approved by the House Appropriations Committee on May 25 with $98 million (stable funding) for the National Endowment for the Arts, with votes possible as early as Tuesday, June 13, 2000.
Amendments are being developed, with bipartisan support, to increase funding for the NEA, as well as the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Office of Museum Services (OMS), all of which are held at current levels in the bill. NASAA and other advocacy groups are working with our supporters in Congress toward a single, bipartisan amendment to add $10 million each to the appropriations for the NEA and the NEH, and $2 million for the OMS.
A strong message of grassroots support to House members within the next few days is crucial to the successful passage of an amendment to increase funding for the NEA, NEH and OMS. We urge you to contact your Member of Congress right away, if you have not already done so, and ask for his support to increase funding for the NEA, NEH and the OMS. If you need contact information or are not sure who your Congressman is, contact MCA at (612) 338-2970 and we will be happy to help.
